Money was really tight. Even though I shared
custody of my children with their father, it
was still a struggle to get enough food on the
table for a family of three.
My
then partner Bob and I had been writing a business
plan but it was rejected by the bank, so I had
to sell our two old bangers, then the television
and finally my jewellery to get enough money
to pay the bills.
But
although I had my low moments I never let them
get my down and never gave up hope that one
day, if I worked hard, my luck might change.
Then
in 1992, I saw an advert in a national newspaper
that said "Earn extra cash". I rang
thenumber and spoke to a man who was building
a team to market Kleeneze home-care products.
Because
we were broke, Bob and I had to borrow £100
for a business kit and catalogues which we gave
our to households before calling back to see
if anyone wanted to buy anything.
The
money started coming in straight away - £525
in the first month and just under £2,000
in the second. And that was just the beginning.
Eleven years on and our team is made up of around
10,000 people. My own personal cut of the profits
is around £10,000 a money and that is
set to double in the next two years.
I
do feel lucky but I believe that you make your
own luck. Fate dealt me a helping hand but if
I hand't seized the Kleeneze
opportunity I wouldn't be where I am today.
